The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has held four by-elections of island councils and women's development committees (WDCs).
The by-elections were held for one seat in the Maaungoodhoo Island Council and WDC seats in Rasmaadhoo in Raa Atoll, Guraidhoo in Thaa Atoll, and Dhanbidhoo in Laamu Atoll. The by-elections saw a low turnout. A total of six ballot boxes were placed for the by-elections.
Moreover, WDCs by-elections are scheduled to be held on October 22 in Hoarafushi in Haa Alifu Atoll and Thinadhoo and Felidhoo in Vaavu Atoll. ECM said five members are to be elected for Thinadhoo and one member each for the remaining two islands.
