MTCC begins asphalt laying in Haorafushi

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced the asphalt laying phase as part of the road development project in Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll. The asphalt laying was officially commenced by Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim.

Speaking at the ceremony, Azim highlighted the development projects conducted by MTCC in Hoarafushi. Highlighting the airport development project, Azim said the airport was built after a major reclamation project and lauded the support received from the island council and residents. He said asphalt laying on the roads will be completed by December

The Hoarafushi Road Development Project commenced in April last year. It is the first road construction project initiated on the island. Under the road development project, major works have been completed to prepare for asphalt laying. As such, cable and utility junctions, casting works and drainage works have also been carried out. As part of the project, 11 roads of Hoarafushi will be redeveloped, including the six largest roads on the island. A total of 5.3km of roads will be developed with asphalt paving, speed breakers, street lights, signage, and a stormwater drainage system. The total value of the project is USD4.66 million.

Hoarafushi is one of the largest islands in the Maldives and has a population of over 2,000 people. A large land area spanning over 74 hectares is inhabited.
