Competitive politics increases development pace: Planning Minister

Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has revealed that the developmental pace has fastened in recent years due to competitive political activities. He made the remarks speaking at the ceremony marking the commencement of asphalt laying on the roads of Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Aslam reiterated islands laying separate is not an obstacle to development, adding the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry system is the backbone of developmental projects. The minister mentioned that despite the geographical layout of the islands, development projects will be conducted and in recent years, the pace of the projects has also fastened. He noted that competitive political activities resulted in rapid development across the Maldives.

Furthermore, Minister Aslam said the past governments were more concerned about concentrating 70% of the population to the Greater Male' Region. However, the minister said the current administration wishes to reduce the congestion in Male' and make services accessible to all islands. He said the biggest transformation next to basic education will be the new transportation system.
