The Maldives has concluded the Maritime Safety Week held commemorating World Maritime Day 2022.

International Maritime Safety Week was celebrated in the Maldives from September 22-29, focusing on the sharing of knowledge and experience to promote marine safety. The closing ceremony held at Male' North Harbour was attended by Minister of State for Transport and Civil Aviation Ahmed Zuhair.

Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister Zuhair said the Maritime Safety Week was a success, thanking the Marine Police of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and Coast Guard of the Maldivian National Defence Force (MNDF) for their assistance in making the event a success.

During the Maritime Safety Week, employees from the ministry have been working in the Male' North Harbour to provide information on vessel safety and environmental protection. The ministry also raised a set of safety flags (CB5 and N Flags) in all sea vessels to depict the importance of vessel safety and security across the country. Meanwhile, a programme to inspect sea vessels was also launched as part of the Maritime Safety Week.

World Maritime Day is celebrated in the last week of September every year. The day focuses on drawing public attention to maritime safety and the marine environment.
