The Maldives has said the friendly partnership with Japan has yielded fruitful outcomes, bringing tangible benefits to both nations and people. The statement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid during a meeting with Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.
As the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohmed Solih, Minister Shahid met with Prime Minister Kishida and Foreign Minister of Japan Hayashi Yoshimasa during his visit to attend the state funeral of Former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo. Minister Shahid attended the funeral service held in Tokyo with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and Ambassador to Japan Hassan Sobir. A number of state leaders and other foreign dignitaries were also present at the service.
After attending the funeral, Minister Shahid said Abe was an outstanding leader, a global statesman, and a true friend of the Maldives, who will be remembered as a pillar of the relationship between the Maldives and Japan.
