The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has submitted the corruption case against the former Chief Magistrate in Velidhoo, Noonu Atoll, to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
JSC revealed the corruption case of Ahmed Saeed Ali has been submitted to ACC and MPS following his resignation from the post while the investigation initiated by JSC was underway. JSC opened an investigation against him over allegations of corruption and bribery. He resigned on September 6.
JSC has jurisdiction to conduct investigations of cases relating to the conduct of judges. However, JSC cannot directly investigate a case if a judge has already resigned. Therefore, JSC decided to discontinue the investigation into the case against Saeed and file the case, and refer the matter to the ACC and MPS.
