Everyone must determine to revive nationalism: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated all citizens must always strive to revive nationalism and learn from the examples of national heroes. He made the remarks in a tweet posted commemorating the National Day of the Maldives.

In his tweet, President Solih extended his best wishes and congratulations to all the people of the Maldives on the occasion of National Day. He said that all citizens should be determined to always move forward with the country.

National Day of the Maldives is celebrated as a tribute to the local resistance that drove out the Portuguese occupiers after they had seized and ruled the islands for a span of 15 years.

Utheemu is the birthplace of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, who with his brothers and companions fought an eight-year-long war to drive out the Portuguese invaders who occupied the nation from 1558 to 1573.

National Day is officially celebrated in Utheemu, Haa Alifu Atoll, this year.
