President appoints new Financial Controller

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Mohamed Azad as the Financial Controller at the Ministry of Finance.

The finance ministry said Azad was appointed as the Financial Controller following the resignation of Fathimath Razeena from the position. Azad is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder and completed a Master's Degree in Science in Finance from International Islamic University, Malaysia. He completed his Bachelor of Business Administration from the same university, graduating as the best student in Finance. He has held the positions of State-owned Enterprise (SOE) Reform Consultant and SOE Financial Consultant in the finance ministry. He also served as Head of Account and Finance at Hazana Maldives, as the Head of the Intelligence Department of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), and as a board member of the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB).

The responsibilities of the financial controller include maintaining the system of financial and accounting documents of the State as determined by the Auditor General of the Maldives. The financial controller is also responsible for the purchase and safekeeping of goods for the State.
