President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have participated in the commemorative flag hoisting ceremony held to mark the National Day of the Maldives. The ceremony was held at the Ganduvaru Maidhaan in Utheemu, Haa Alifu Atoll.
Upon arrival, President Solih and First Lady Fazna were greeted by Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi and Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla. The president and the first lady were accompanied at the ceremony by cabinet ministers and senior officials from the government.
National Day is observed to celebrate the victory of Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam over the Portuguese occupation in 1573. The National Day is celebrated on the first of Rabī'al-Awwal every year.
