President's Office has announced Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid will attend and represent the Maldives at the funeral of former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.
The former Prime Minister Abe passed away due to injuries sustained following an attack by a lone gunman at a public gathering on July 8, 2022. Japan will hold a state funeral for Abe in Tokyo on September 27, 2022, where a number of foreign dignitaries and state leaders will be attending.
President's Office said Minister Shahid and other delegates have now departed to Japan to attend the state funeral.
