The newly developed Abibakri Siddiqui Mosque has been officially opened in Dhangethi, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. The mosque was inaugurated by the Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali at a ceremony held in Dhangethi. He also led the Friday prayers after officially opening the mosque.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Zahir said the Dhangethi Island Council informed the ministry about the space constraints in the existing mosques on the island. He said a modern mosque was developed on the island that individuals with special needs can also access easily.
The Islamic ministry stated the mosque developed in Dhangethi has a capacity of at least 300 worshippers. The mosque was contracted to LF Construction Private Limited and was developed at a cost of USD265,375 which was funded from the state budget.
The construction and renovation of mosques across the country is an important task undertaken by the Islamic ministry.
