EPA issues USD19,000 fine for damage to Hulhule’ reef

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a fine of over USD19,000 after a ship ran aground on the reef of Hulhule’.

EPA said MV Chen Glory 9 ran aground on September 2 and a fine was issued after assessing the damage to the affected area. EPA said the joint survey conducted on September 10 revealed the reef incurred various amounts of damage.

EPA further stated Grace Atoll Private Limited, the local agent of the ship, paid the fine on September 13.
