Gov't says amount in Sovereign Development Fund has not reduced

The President's Office has stated the amount in the Sovereign Development Fund (SDF) has not been reduced and will consist of the estimated amount by the end of the year.

At a press conference, the Spokesperson at the President's Office Miuvaan Mohamed responded to questions regarding claims that the SDF currently has no available funds. He said the amount in the SDF is not consistent throughout the year and it is being used for various initiatives. He added the exact amount in the SDF can be seen in the published reports.

SDF was established to ease the burden of repaying loans taken by the state to invest in development projects in the country. SDF will be utilised if the government is met with an unprecedented economic crisis or when the administration is unable to repay loans taken for major development projects.
