Huge development initiatives planned for northern region

The President's Office has revealed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has huge development plans for the northern region of the Maldives consisting of Haa Alifu Atoll and Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

At a press conference, the Spokesperson at the President's Office Miuvaan Mohamed said the details of the development initiatives will be revealed during President Solih's trip to Haa Alifu Atoll and Haa Dhaalu Atoll. He detailed the ongoing projects in the region including the development of Hanimaadhoo Airport, the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) services, the upgrade of the Kulhudhuffushi Hospital, the construction of a junior college, and various water and sewerage projects.

The administration of President Solih has prioritised equitable development of all regions of the Maldives under a decentralised policy. As such, the administration has initiated projects to establish water supply and sewerage networks in all inhabited islands, which are expected to be completed by early 2023, and has been establishing essential services for neglected island communities.

Previous governments had pledged but failed to deliver on development plans for the northern region. The residents also had no means to express their grievances to the government. President Solih will be officially inaugurating completed projects and commencing the fieldwork for planned projects in the region during his trip from September 26-28. He is scheduled to visit Utheemu and Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, as well as Finey and Naivaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
