MIFCO transfers 14 ice plants to Fenaka

Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has signed an agreement to transfer 14 ice plants to Fenaka Corporation Limited.

The agreement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MIFCO Ismail Fauzee and the Managing Director of Fenaka Ahmed Saeed. Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan attended the agreement signing ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director Saeed expressed gratitude towards the government for entrusting the responsibility to Fenaka and assured that the company will continuously provide ice to fishermen. He said the aim is to establish cold storage lockers at ice plants to store and sell the ice and to establish a mechanism by which the ice plants can operate for 24 hours a day. He added that cable networks and solar panels will be installed to reduce expenditure.

Also at the ceremony, CEO Fauzee 70% of MIFCO’s operations are fuel powered which has caused issues due to the hike in global fuel prices. He said transferring the ice plants to Fenaka will solve the issue.

The ice plants transferred to Fenaka are located in Ihavandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Lhohi in Noonu Atoll, Alifushi in Raa Atoll, Thulhaadhoo in Baa Atoll, Nilandhoo in Faafu Atoll, Hirilandhoo in Thaa Atoll, Dhandhoo, Dhevvadhoo, Gemanafushi, and Kolamaafushi in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Fiyoaree and Faresmaathodaa in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, and Hithadhoo in Addu City.
