Minister of the President’s Office Ahmed Sameer has said the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) is a service that has the full trust of the citizens of Maldives. RTL service was introduced by the government to connect the entire country with a modern transport system.
Speaking on PSM News, Minister Sameer said the RTL ferry system alone shows the importance given by the government to the basic needs of the public. The minister said the service has stopped citizens from paying high prices to travel between the islands. He, therefore, said the public will not accept the RTL service as a waste of government expenditure.
In addition, Minister Sameer said the service provides passengers with modern facilities and hospitality. He said under the far-sighted policy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the service will be sustainable, adding the cost of transportation has been reduced many times over.
The National Public Ferry Network is a large-scale project that introduces efficient, affordable, and convenient passenger and cargo ferry services to all administrative islands of the country. In line with the Decentralisation Act, it aims to facilitate inclusive regional development by connecting people and services, accelerating social and economic growth, improving efficiency in the delivery of public services, and improving mobility and accessibility for all citizens in all areas of the nation. The government aims to connect all Maldivian islands using the ferry network by the end of 2023.
