President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have concluded their official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) and returned back to the Maldives.
President Solih and First Lady Fazna travelled to London to attend the state funeral for the late Queen Elizabeth II. During the trip, they also met with the new King Charles III.
The late Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96. Following her demise, the Maldives observed three days of mourning with the national flag flown at half-mast. Before the funeral, the president and the first lady paid their last respects as her coffin was laid in state at the Westminster Hall in the Palace of Westminster, London. They also wrote messages in the Book of Condolences at Lancaster House, London.
The late Queen Elizabeth II had received the Grand Order of the Distinguished Rule of Ghaazee, the highest honour of the Maldives.
