Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated maritime should become an environmentally friendly green sector despite the challenges.
Speaking at the ceremony to mark World Maritime Day, Minister Aslam highlighted the importance of developing maritime into a green sector in order to solve the biggest crisis the world is currently facing. He noted the reluctance of stakeholders due to the challenges they would face in implementing green technology in its current state but said efforts should be made to provide solutions.
Additionally, Minister Aslam expressed confidence the Maldives maritime sector has the potential to greatly benefit the national economy. He said the development of the maritime sector had slowed but Maldivians can be made into experienced workers that contribute to its development. He emphasised the importance of providing training opportunities for the youth and increasing public awareness of maritime safety.
