State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has pledged to support the local councils in efforts to promote social development in rural areas. The statement was made by the Managing Director of STELCO Ahmed Shareef at a ceremony to sign agreements with the island councils in Alifu Alifu Atoll and Alifu Dhaalu Atoll to repair and maintenance of street lights.
At the ceremony, agreements were signed separately to take over the repair and maintenance of street lights in 14 islands. The islands consist of Mathiveri, Bodufolhudhoo, Feridhoo, Himandhoo, Maalhos in Alifu Alifu Atoll and Hangnaameedhoo, Omadhoo, Kunburudhoo, Mahibadhoo, Mandhoo, Dhangethi, Dhigurah, Dhidhdhoo and Fenfushi in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
Additionally, Shareef said that as a government-owned company, STELCO is pleased to work for the welfare of the public. He said that STELCO will participate in the social development of rural areas to the extent of its capacity. He added that STELCO aims to be a trusted partner for the residents of the islands.
Speaking about the repair and maintenance of rural street lights, Shareef said STELCO will be handling the project with past experience and competence. STELCO will bear all the costs of repairing and maintaining the street lights on the islands as part of the agreement.
