The Civil Procedure Code was ratified by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on December 16, 2021. It encompasses the rules relating to pre-trial procedures, proceedings at trial, general rules of evidence applicable to civil cases, judgments, orders, and enforcement of judgments in civil proceedings. The code came into effect six months after ratification, on June 16, 2022.

The purpose of the Civil Procedure Code is to enhance the efficiency of the civil litigation process and to ensure that cases are decided in a just and transparent manner. The Civil Procedure Code applies to all courts overseeing civil matters.
