The Civil Service Commission of the Maldives (CSC) has announced the recruitment of 42 more Secretaries-General (SG) for local councils.
CSC first opened applications for the SG position for the secretariats of 200 councils in June 2021. However, only 127 SGs were appointed in the past year and some of the appointed SGs have since resigned from the position.
CSC announced that eligible candidates are invited to apply for two ranks of SGs for five-year terms before September 29. Due to the difficulty in recruiting SGs, the commission reduced the eligibility criteria to allow individuals with diplomas to apply for the posts. After the interview process, the most qualified candidate will be selected on merit from among those who get more than 60% marks. The individual shall be appointed to the position on the recommendation of the council, according to the commission.
The SG is the highest administrative position in the local council and is responsible for handling the administrative and financial tasks of the council.
