Ministry of Economic Development and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) have signed an agreement to train security officers and provide them with employment.
As per the agreement, the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement (NCPLE) is required to begin an initial training programme for security officers in October. Its purpose is to provide opportunities for individuals interested in becoming security officers and address the challenges faced by Maldivians in gaining employment in the security sector. Currently, most security officers in the Maldives are foreigners.
NCPLE will train 30 security officers under the 100% government-funded two-week training programme, which will be conducted in Vaanee, Dhaa Atoll. Individuals interested in participating in the training programme can submit their applications before October 13.
The economic ministry stated that the security sector is expanding in the country and providing more opportunities for individuals interested in the profession. The training initiative to be carried out with MPS is part of the efforts of the government to provide more training and employment opportunities for Maldivians.
