Three new resorts brings over 1,000 tourist beds to operation

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that three new resorts have brought 1,166 tourist beds to operation.

As such, Alila Kothaifaru Maldives has opened with 160 beds, Aanugandu Island Resort opened with 768 beds, and Hilton Amingiri Resort and Spa opened with 238 beds.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom noted the challenges faced by some resort developers due to the delays in procuring the necessary equipment and resources. He also said that the ministry has requested local councils to open new islands for development, adding that teams have been travelling to the islands to conduct studies and formulate a list prior to opening them for bidding.

The latest statistics published by the tourism ministry show that 164 resorts consisting of 40,053 beds have been brought to operation as of September 13. There are 170 resorts with 41,175 beds registered in the Maldives.

The government has been working with investors to fast-track the development of islands leased for resort development. The ministry has estimated that 10 new resorts will be opened by the end of 2022.
