UK High Commission initiates Online Media Ethics Course

The British High Commission in the Maldives has signed an agreement to design and run an Online Media Ethics Course.

The course which was developed as part of the Maldives Strengthening Communications and Governance Project is being implemented by Canada-based Alinea International with support from the British High Commission.

The course is expected to start in 2023 and agreements have been signed with four parties. As such, the agreement was signed between Alinea International and Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM), Maldives Media Institute (MMI), Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC), and Maldives Media Council (MMC).

The aim of the agreement is to create an online media ethics course that can be used by the media, communications bureaus, civil society, and other interested parties as a training tool and for an acceptable level of qualification and ethical baseline. Designed using multimedia, the course is accessible to all, appropriate to the local environment, and meets international standards of journalistic best practices.
