President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said census data in previous years was not collected properly and appealed for public support in gathering information. He made the appeal at Dharubaaruge' convention centre, where the census teams are based for the mobilisation process.
During the visit, President Solih noted the enumerators are performing an important but difficult task, adding the information gathered during the census would be instrumental in planning the future of the country. The president said that census data would facilitate developmental planning and identify the most pressing societal issues within communities. He also inquired about the census data collection process for 2022 and observed the resource mobilisation operations in progress at the centre.
The Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) is undertaking the census. The listing operation will be carried out from September 13-14, while the main operation will continue from September 17-25. MBS recruited over 4,000 enumerators for the census, out of which around 2,000 enumerators will be working in the Greater Malé Region.
