Ameenee Magu redevelopment begins

Road Development Corporation (RDC) has begun the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu in Male’ City. RDC has split the redevelopment of the road into 13 segments and began work on the first segment located in Henveiru.

Ameenee Magu is one of the busiest roads of Male’ due to the high number of office buildings and schools, and is one of the few roads that run across the length of the capital. It also is the main network for utility services and connects the traffic to all areas of the city. The road is in poor condition, which causes difficulties for vehicles and pedestrians using the road.

The redevelopment of Ameenee Magu was inaugurated on August 30. RDC is conducting the fieldwork in a way that does not negatively impact the residents of Male’ City. As such, Segment 1 has been closed off for the fieldwork, which consists of 100 metres of the road in Henveiru that connects to Boduthakurufaanu Magu. RDC stated that the work is being conducted with the support and cooperation from the residents.

Meanwhile, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) stated that changes will be made to the minibus routes based on the segments of Ameenee Magu that are closed off.

The contract for the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu was signed between the planning ministry and RDC on July 3. The project involves paving the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu with asphalt and installing a new stormwater drainage system. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million. The duration of the project is seven months.
