Over 500 vehicles have been issued fines in Male' City for illegally parking on minibus routes.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has highlighted the increasing demand for the minibus service since its commencement on September 6. However, the state-owned company stated that it needed more support from the public for the service to continue smoothly, emphasising the importance of adhering to the traffic regulations for public safety.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) stated that it will take action on vehicles that do not adhere to the regulations, such as illegally parking near bus stops, parking next to curbs, and driving close to or illegally overtaking minibuses. As part of the efforts, MPS has towed 30 motorcycles and one car since September 6, and has issued fines to 538 parked vehicles.
MTCC is using 18 minibuses to make 10 minute stops at bus stops established on three routes, which are the Orchid route, Sosun route, and Ameenee route.
