Home Minister says decentralisation policy should not be reversed

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated that no opportunity should be given to reverse the decentralisation policy implemented by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the third Viavathi Raajje conference, Minister Imran said that decentralisation is the most significant and successful policy implemented by the administration and that President Solih has pledged to further strengthen decentralisation, adding that he is passionate about fulfilling this pledge.

Furthermore, Minister Imran highlighted the importance of the Viavathi Raajje conference in addressing the challenges faced in providing essential services to citizens and providing solutions by making changes to the relevant laws or implementing administrative changes. He said that the most important issue to address at the conference was to uphold the decentralisation policy, emphasising that no opportunity should be given to reverse the changes made to governance that would disempower citizens.

Additionally, Minister Imran noted the success President Solih has had in prioritising discussions prior to conducting development initiatives. He highlighted that Islam also emphasises holding discussions.
