Raa Atoll Council holds handicraft exhibition in Angolhitheemu

Raa Atoll Council has held a handicraft exhibition in Angolhitheemu to showcase handicraft works.

The exhibition was held to celebrate the golden year of tourism in the Maldives. The exhibition is being initiated by the Raa Atoll Council with assistance from the Ministry of Tourism. The exhibition, which is part of Tourism Expo 2022, was officially opened by Deputy Minister of Tourism Ahmed Athif.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Athif said the main objective of the exhibition is to provide tourism sector benefits to the island residents. He said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to bring benefits of the tourism sector to residents of the islands.

The exhibition was attended by residents from the islands of Raa Atoll and demonstrated their handicraft skills. The exhibition featured various works depicting ancient customs and lifestyles of the ancestors. Boats and various types of food were also on display. Each of these products is indigenous. Ancient tools were used in making handicrafts.

Speaking to PSM News, President of Angolhitheemu Island Council Faisal Naseem said he was very pleased that such an exhibition was held so successfully, adding it will bring huge benefits to the entire province.

In addition, a career guidance programme was also conducted for school students as part of the exhibition.
