Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has installed CCTV cameras in additional towers of the Hiyaa housing project.
HDC first installed 768 surveillance cameras in four towers of the Hiyaa housing project. As such, cameras were installed in Hiyaa Towers H13, H14, H15, and H16 to ensure the security of tenants. In addition, HDC has now installed cameras in Hiyaa Towers H5 to H8 with 192 security cameras in each tower. HDC plans to install a total of 3,072 cameras in all the towers. The state-owned company stated that various contractors have been hired for the project in order to complete the work as soon as possible.
Hiya is the largest public housing project in Hulhumale' Phase II and a large number of residents have begun moving to the flats this year. Many of the residents have expressed concern over the lack of essential services and security in the area, which had led to cases of theft and drug-related crimes.
HDC has been holding discussions with the relevant authorities to solve these issues. As part of the efforts, HDC has opened a management office in the Hiyaa flat area, while seven shops, two supermarkets, two clinics, a pharmacy, and a bakery have also been opened. Furthermore, three cafes, a salon, and three mosques including two temporary mosques have been built in the area, and a police station was also opened.
