Aasandha desks established at hospitals in Kulhudhuffushi, Addu

The national health insurance provider, Aasandha Company Limited, has established desks at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital and Addu Equatorial Hospital.

At a press conference, the Spokesperson at the President’s Office Miuvaan Mohamed said that the Aasandha office in Male’ has been overburdened with requests, resulting in delays in providing services in emergency situations at hospitals and health centres. He said that the Aasandha desks established in Kulhudhuffushi and Addu City will make services more efficient. Aasandha is used in the atolls for the transfer of patients.

Furthermore, Spokesperson Miuvaan said that the Aasandha desks were established as part of the government’s work to decentralise health services in the Maldives. He said that more desks will be established in more atoll hospitals.

Aasandha Company Limited is a state-owned company tasked with managing the national health insurance scheme. Established in 2011, Aasandha administers the health insurance scheme by facilitating the provision of free healthcare for Maldivians in government hospitals and health centres as well as facilitating healthcare services abroad in special cases.

Aasandha is operating a desk in Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
