The Maldives has discussed receiving technical assistance from Singapore. The discussions took place during a meeting between Vice President Faisal Naseem and the Minister for Social and Family Development of Singapore Masagos Zulkifli.
During the meeting with Minister Zulkifli as part of his unofficial visit to Singapore, Vice President Naseem stated that over the course of the partnership, the two countries had a number of high-level visits during which several Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) were signed that were mutually beneficial. He said that Singapore continues to play an important role in the development of the Maldives and that the government looks forward to cooperating in a variety of areas, including defence, social development, economic development, telecommunications, and youth empowerment. He also spoke about education and the significance of early childhood development.
Furthermore, Vice President Naseem and Minister Zulkifli also discussed mutual interests such as international cooperation and increasing people-to-people contact. They expressed hope of working together to further strengthen the Maldives-Singapore relations.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore were established on February 20, 1975.
