Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that over 2,000 passengers used the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) minibus service in Male’ City on the first day.
Statistics published by MTCC show that 2,257 passengers used the minibuses on the first day of service. They include 621 passengers who used the Orchid route, 754 passengers who used the Sosun route, and 882 passengers that used the Ameenee route.
MTCC commenced the minibus service on September 5. The bus routes have been established to make it easy for school students, office workers, and individuals travelling to hospitals to reach their destinations within 10 minutes from the farthest bus stops. The bus routes are interconnected to areas in Henveiru and Maafannu and each bus stop is a five-minute walk away from the other.
The service is free of charge during the first two weeks. However, school students, disabled persons, senior citizens, and children under three years of age will be able to travel on the minibuses free of charge throughout the duration of the service.
The bus service is operational from 0545hrs to 0015hrs every day and buses will make their stops every 10 minutes. MTCC has introduced a QR ticketing service to allow passengers to purchase online tickets, which will expire after seven days.
