Panama appoints first Ambassador to the Maldives

Panama has appointed its first-ever ambassador to the Maldives. The newly appointed Ambassador of Panama to the Maldives Itzel Patiño de Villarreal presented credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

At the meeting held at the President's Office, President Solih and Ambassador de Villarreal reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. At the meeting, President Solih noted it was the first time a Panamanian Ambassador had been appointed to the Maldives and congratulated her on the new appointment. The president and the ambassador discussed various topics of mutual interest, including multilateralism, sustainable tourism, climate change, democracy, counter-terrorism, and cooperation in the international arena.

The Maldives and Panama established diplomatic relations in 1989.
