Power to Persuade workshop held in southern cities

Care Society, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) registered to cater to the most vulnerable groups, has held a Power to Persuade workshop on empowering women with disabilities in Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.

The workshop was held at Sharafuddeen School in Hithadhoo from September 1-3 with 19 participants. During the workshop, women with disabilities were taught policy formation and advocating for their rights. Care Society held the workshop in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Speaking to PSM News, Executive Director Ahmed Athif said that the workshop highlighted the main challenges faced by women with disabilities, which are accessibility to services, education, social security, competitive job environment, and lack of job training. He expressed hope that the workshop will pave the way for solutions to these issues.

Care Society has previously held two Power to Persuade workshops in the Greater Male’ Region and one workshop in Kulhudhuffushi City. The next workshop is scheduled to be held in Laamu Atoll. The NGO is holding workshops to train 100 women with disabilities.
