National Hotels and Guesthouse Association of the Maldives (NHGAM) has decided to establish a marketing platform for guesthouses. The decision was made at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll.
Speaking to PSM News, Vice President of NHGAM Abdul Sameeu said that the most important decision made at the AGM was to establish a specific platform to market guesthouses. He said that the platform will be open to all hotels and guesthouses operating in the Maldives.
NHGAM has decided to name the platform, I am Maldives, which can be used as a brand to market specific islands and atolls. The brand will also be used to organise activities such as fairs with guesthouses. NHGAM stated that it has received praise from the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), the national airline Maldivian, and the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) for its decision to establish the marketing platform. The association will also be introducing a yearly magazine for hotels and guesthouses.
GAM renamed itself as NHGAM in late 2021. The association stated that the purpose of renaming the association is to advocate for the rights of hotel managers as well as guesthouses across the country.
NHGAM is a non-profit organisation established in 2014 which represents businesses in the local tourism sector. The association has evolved over the years to be the leading non-profit organisation in the industry and the voice of local island-based tourism. The association cooperates with all the guesthouses of the Maldives, conducts research-based work, raises awareness as well as promotes the local tourism sector.
