Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has expressed hope of developing the Maldives Police Service (MPS) into a modern institution that shows results. He made the remarks at the ceremony to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) being re-established as a civil body.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Hameed said that his hope is for MPS to have all resources necessary to responsibly investigate and stop criminal activities, safeguard the rights of citizens, and establish peace in the community. He noted that the police uniforms, flags, and vehicles were changed when MPS was re-established as a civil body, which shows the expansive role police officers play in serving the public. He said that work is continuing to be done to increase public trust in the service.
Furthermore, Commissioner Hameed said that MPS is responsible for showing the results of the various internal changes it has gone through and the rules of police conduct that have been introduced. He assured that the police service will continue to work towards increasing public trust as well as increasing the role of citizens in the expanding work of the police officers in the community. He also thanked employees and senior officials of MPS who were involved in the development of the police service since 2004.
