Dhiraagu and Bike Maldives have announced the return of the Mamen Inter-School Cycling Championship after a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the third edition of the Inter-School Cycling Championship, which was previously held in 2018 and 2019.
At a press conference held at Dhiraagu Head Office to launch the event, Assistant Manager Naiya Shareef stated the aim is to foster an interest in cycling amongst school children through the event while promoting the importance of a healthy, sustainable lifestyle from a young age.
Meanwhile, the President of Bike Maldives Zulaikha Hasan Didi stated as a member of the International Cycling Union (UCI), the association gets many opportunities to participate in international-level games and competitions and the aim is to create and train top cyclists who can utilise these chances and represent the Maldives abroad.
The tournament will take place on September 17 at the Cycling Track in Hulhumale’ Phase 2. Registrations are now open for the tournament and will close on September 8. All school children are eligible to participate in the tournament. Students can register online through a Google form, which will be provided via their respective schools and also circulated through the social media handles of Dhiraagu and Bike Maldives. A total of 10 events will take place during the one-day tournament and three male and female winners will be chosen from each competitive category, excluding the 1K Fun Ride, which is the category for children below 10 years.
