STELCO to repair and maintain streetlights in three islands

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has taken over the repair and maintenance of streetlights in three islands as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. The state-owned company will be maintaining the streetlights in Rasdhoo, Thoddoo, and Ukulhas in Alifu Alifu Atoll.

The agreements were signed by Managing Director of STELCO Ahmed Shareef and President of Thoddoo Island Council Ahmed Karam, President of Ukulhas Island Council Shaukath Ibrahim and President of Rasdhoo Island Council Mohamed Nahid.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director Shareef said island councils have informed STELCO on the importance of maintaining streetlights during meetings held with respective councils. He stated the initiative is part of the efforts of STELCO to assist island councils in managing the islands, adding that STELCO always aims to work closely with the public.

Furthermore, STELCO expressed it will work to collaborate with more islands in the future following the pilot projects launched in the three islands. Under the initiative, the government utility company will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and cost of the lights.
