President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent condolences to Pakistan following the tragic loss of life and damage to property after floods swept across a number of regions of the country.
In a tweet, President Solih expressed devastation over floods in Pakistan, which have now claimed over 1,000 lives and displaced many more. The president offered his sympathies and prayers to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the government, and the people of Pakistan.
Furthermore, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid sent a message of condolences to his counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari following the devastating floods across Pakistan. Minister Shahid expressed sadness to learn about the loss of hundreds of lives, mass displacement, and the extensive damage and destruction to homes, critical infrastructure, and livelihoods due to widespread floods caused by extraordinarily strong monsoon rains across Pakistan, especially in Sindh and Balochistan. He also expressed hope the efforts of the rescue and relief teams continue successfully and swiftly, and praise the perseverance of the people of Pakistan during the enduring crisis.
Unusually heavy monsoon rains have caused devastating floods in both the north and south of Pakistan, affecting more than 30 million people and killing more than 1,000 people. The South Asian nation was already in an economic crisis, facing high inflation, a depreciating currency and a current account deficit.
