Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has praised President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for ending the previous policy of centralisation by equitably providing essential public services. He made the remarks while speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the harbour in Veyvah, Meemu Atoll.
At the ceremony, Minister Aslam said that the work to solve the transportation difficulties in the islands began in 1985 but that the residents of Veyvah had to wait 37 years for the development of its harbour. He said that the administration finds value in Veyvah even if the previous governments had chosen to ignore the island.
Furthermore, Minister Aslam said that various types of developmental projects have been commenced to benefit the residents of Veyvah. He said that the previous administration had prioritised centralisation but that President Solih’s policy is to equitably develop all inhabited islands and provide essential services to every atoll resident.
Additionally, Minister Aslam said that the administration does not wish to congest people into specific regions and aims to make essential services easily accessible to citizens no matter where they live. He added that the provision of essential services in all parts of the country is a positive result of the administration’s decentralisation policy.
