Muli Airport to be operational mid-2023

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed Muli Airport will be operational by mid-2023.

Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the harbour developed in Veyvah, Meemu Atoll, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim said the airport developed in Muli, Meemu Atoll will be developed to ensure it becomes operational by mid-next year. Noting the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has entrusted MTCC with projects worth over USD586 million, Azim said it is the presidency that has conducted the most developmental projects in the Maldives. He said that all the projects are conducted for the convenience of the people. 

The project to develop the Muli Airport was contracted to MTCC in February 2021. Muli Airport is being developed for domestic flight operations. The project involves the reclamation of 14 hectares of land, the construction of a 1200-metre runway, taxiway, apron, and terminal. The project is worth over USD 14.3 million.

Meemu Atoll has a population of 7,700 across eight inhabited islands and is the only atoll that does not have access to an airport within 30 minutes of travel.
