Madduvari Island Council has expressed gratitude to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for working closely with the community to meet their needs. He is currently on a five-island tour of Meemu Atoll.
During his visit to Madduvari, President Solih held a meeting with the island council and the women’s development committee (WDC). During the meeting, the council members highlighted that the majority of the island's developmental projects have been initiated under the current administration and expressed their gratitude. They also shared with the president the community’s most pertinent needs and concerns. The discussions at the meeting centred on challenges faced due to coastal erosion, storm surges, and the design of the harbour; addressing space constraints at the school; and the need for a youth centre.
The harbour development project of the island was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The commencement of the project is behind schedule due to disagreements within the community over the design of the harbour. The president said the project would only proceed with the community’s input. Additionally, water and sewerage development projects are also underway on the island.
A high-level government delegation, including cabinet members, accompanies the president on the visit.
