Maduvvari harbour project will proceed with community input: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated the harbour development project of Maduvvari would proceed after consultation and with the input and perspective of the island’s community. He made the statement at a meeting with the resident community of the island as part of his five-island tour of Meemu Atoll.

The most pressing concerns of the community of Maduvvari are related to the harbour project and coastal erosion, which President Solih highlighted and discussed at his meeting earlier with the public officials of the island. The president said the project would commence once the community gave their input about the design concept of the harbour, which caused a stall in the project.

Furthermore, President Solih announced that a team from the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure would travel to the island in September to hold consultations with the community about the design of the harbour. The coastal protection work on the island is expected to commence concurrently.

Additionally, President Solih also announced the administration’s plans to resume mobile laboratory services on the island. He also stated that a project to develop a youth centre would commence soon.

A senior delegation from the government, including cabinet members, accompanies the president on the visit.
