Islamic Ministry denies ordering mosques to turn down volume

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has refuted claims that it sent circulars to Imams of mosques to turn down the volume during prayer congregations.

The Islamic ministry stated that it would never request an alteration on the longstanding tradition of sounding the call to prayer and hearing the sounds of prayer. It noted that loudspeakers are used for the call to prayer and that adequate sound systems are installed inside mosques to allow Imams to lead the congregation.

The ministry, however, stated that it has received public complaints regarding some mosques using the loudspeakers to lead prayers and that Imams were advised to use the sound systems on the inside during the prayer congregation. It added that some media outlets were inaccurate in their reporting of the issue.
