Taxis mandated to install dashboard cameras

Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has mandated all taxis to install dashboard cameras.

The amendment made to Taxi regulations states that dashboard cameras must be installed in all taxis, and the device must have recording turned on during all service hours. The recordings must be kept for at least seven days, according to the regulations.

Moreover, the taxi fares should be displayed in taxis, viewable to passengers. The new amendment also stipulates that services must be provided 24 hours a day by taxi centres and each driver must complete seven hours a day.

If any taxi centre or driver violates the regulations, the transport ministry has the authority to take action against such a party. As such, fines ranging from USD32 to USD65 are detailed in the regulations considering the offenses and complaints. The ministry can suspend and nullify the licenses if the offense is repeated.
