Funadhoo powerhouse handed over to Fenaka

Funadhoo Island Council hands over the operation and maintenance of the powerhouse on the island to Fenaka Corporation Limited.

For the past 36 years, electricity was provided in Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll, by the collective efforts of island residents and the Funadhoo Island Council. The handover ceremony was attended by the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Aminath Shauna.

During the ceremony, Minister Shauna stated that Fenaka is capable of providing uninterrupted electricity services and that the company plays an important role in carrying out government policies. She said the most important policy of the government is to expand the renewable energy sector.

Meanwhile, President of Funadhoo Island Council Ahmed Ibrahim Fulhu said the decision was made based on the services provided by Fenaka on other islands and it is for the betterment of the future of the island.

Following the handover of Funadhoo powerhouse, Fenaka has now commenced efforts to develop the services. As part of the efforts, a 600kW and 800kW engine have already been taken to the island to provide electricity services to the residents of Funadhoo. The installation of the engines has already begun, as per the state-owned utility company. The initiative is expected to solve the power outages on the island and facilitate uninterrupted services.

Fenaka currently provides electricity services in 153 islands.
