HDC Managing Director retires

Managing Director Suhail Ahmed has retired from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

Suhail was appointed as the Managing Director and a member of the board of directors in December 2018. He has 15 years of experience at HDC and held the post of Managing Director from 2012 to 2015 as well, before his brief departure. HDC stated that he has brought about transformative developments in Hulhumale’ over the years. The company stated that he is a pioneer in city development and his experience and innovative mechanisms in this field are unparalleled in the Maldives.

Suhail’s work focused on the development of Hulhumale’ Phase II as well as maintaining the vision, mission, strategies, and day-to-day operations. He joined HDC during the reclamation and development of Hulhumale’ in 2001 and oversaw the settlement of the first 200 families on the island. He also advocated for more affordable public housing and closely monitored the work to reclaim and develop Hulhumale’ Phase II. He also commenced the Beyond Hulhumale’ initiative to support integrated planning efforts in urban development among other regions to help cities grow sustainably.

HDC is the largest state-owned enterprise (SOE) in the Maldives and Suhail has worked as a senior official at HDC during the past four administrations. HDC has thanked Suhail for his valuable service.
