Gov't opens to develop 50 row houses in Rasdhoo

Ministry of Finance has announced seeking a contractor to develop 50 rowhouses in Rasdhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll.

The finance ministry announced seeking contractors to develop the rowhouses under the design and build policy. The bidding for the project will be opened on September 6 and bidders must secure a bid security of USD16,600, the finance ministry added.

Rasdhoo has a land area of 20 hectares and a population of over 1,200. Rasdhoo is an island that operates a vast number of guesthouses. Since the inception of the guesthouse business, the island now has 30 guesthouses, with more under development. The guesthouses are also operated on land plots allocated for living which the owners note as a challenge in further developing the sector. With the local tourism industry bringing new life to the social and economic status, many of the residents are trying to introduce more services for tourists on the island.

In October 2021, during a visit to Rasdhoo, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih assured the island population that efforts will be exerted to help ease the struggles faced due to housing shortages. The government is already implementing the project of developing rowhouses on many islands. The rowhouses are three-bedroom houses that are offered at the lowest possible price, with long-term payments.
