MTCC to build coastal protection in Mulak, Ungoofaaru, harbour in Maduvvari

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to build coastal protection structures in Mulak in Meemu Atoll, and Ungoofaaru in Raa Atoll, and to develop the harbour in Maduvvari in Meemu Atoll.

The agreements were signed by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Zeeniya Ahmed, and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim.

MTCC is tasked with completing the second phase of the coastal protection project in Mulak. As part of the work, the state-owned company will be constructing a 343m revetment, and a 539m outer wall, as well as refilling the eroded parts of the beach. The company is required to complete the project within 15 months at a cost of USD2.5 million.

Additionally, MTCC is tasked with completing the coastal protection project in Ungoofaaru under a design-and-build policy. The scope of the project includes the construction of a 120m outer wall, and a 110m groyne as well as refilling the eroded parts of the beach. The company is required to complete the project within six months at a cost of USD723,000.

Furthermore, MTCC is tasked with developing the harbour in Maduvvari, which consists of the construction a 600m outer wall using 92,000cbm of sand, and the construction of a 122m revetment. The design of the harbour is unique to the Maldives and will allow locals to use it as a recreational area. The company is required to complete the project within 16 months at a cost of USD3.3 million.
